The Institute of Greek Language fully complies with the provisions of Law 2472/1997, as amended, and has made the necessary notifications to the Personal Data Protection Authority.
The management and protection of the personal data of the visitor/user of the website’s services are subject to the terms of this section, as well as the relevant provisions of Greek Law 2472/1997 for the protection of the individual from the processing of personal data, as supplemented by the decisions of the President of the Personal Data Protection Committee, Presidential Decrees 207/1998 and 79/2000, Article 8 of Law 2819/2000, and Law 3471/2006 on the protection of personal data in electronic communications, as well as European law (Directives 95/46/EC and 97/66/EC). These terms are formulated considering both the rapid development of technology, particularly the Internet, and the existing—although not fully developed—framework of legal regulations regarding these issues. In this context, any future related regulation will be subject to the provisions of this section. In any case, the website reserves the right to change the terms of personal data protection in accordance with the applicable legal framework. Therefore, these terms of personal data protection may be revised and updated at any time without prior notice. Website users are advised to regularly check these terms for any changes, as continued use of the website implies acceptance of any modifications to these terms.
The visitor/user can access a large portion of the website without revealing their identity or providing any personal details. However, there are certain areas of the website (such as those related to “Registration” and “Contact”) where access requires the visitor/user’s registration and the collection of personal data, and in some cases, sensitive health data, for specific purposes.
The Institute of Greek Language (INEL) collects personal data, and when necessary, sensitive data from the visitor/user, only when they voluntarily provide them with the purpose of achieving the goals mentioned under Section ST. Personal data are those that can be used to identify an individual or to communicate with them, as well as other information concerning that person.
The personal and sensitive data collected and processed on the website, when applicable, include the following:
A) In case the electronic contact form is filled out by the interested party: For communication with the INEL, the following information is required: name, e-mail, phone, subject, message. The above details are required for the INEL to communicate with the visitor/user, are stored in the website’s database, and may be used as outlined in Section ST below.
B) In case of registration to the Newsletter: For the registration of the visitor/user to the mailing lists of the website’s newsletters, the following information is required: e-mail. If the visitor/user chooses to subscribe to the Newsletter, the INEL and its partner (specifically, the provider of the communication platform, Mailchimp) may record and use the user’s e-mail address solely for the purpose of sending the Newsletter, as well as periodic updates on the activities of the Institute of Greek Language. The Newsletter is not a personal and confidential correspondence; it is an informational campaign, and its content may be read, for the purpose of legal compliance, by the communication platform provider.
C) Use of Cookies: Cookies are small text files transferred from a website to the visitor’s hard drive or browser for added functionality or to track website usage. The INEL uses cookies with limited functionality. The cookies it uses do not collect or store personal data or information about how the website was used in the past. The INEL uses the information obtained from the cookies only for “blind” statistical analysis and to adjust its communication methods with the public. The visitor/user can configure their browser to accept all cookies, reject all cookies, or be informed when a cookie is created.
D) Retention and processing of data: The INEL retains the above data solely for the purposes outlined in this section and for the time necessary to fulfill these purposes. The INEL maintains records of this data solely for the purpose of providing the visitor/user with access to the electronic applications, assisting them, facilitating their participation in INEL, improving communication, informing them about INEL’s activities, supporting and fulfilling the relationship between the user and INEL, for statistical reasons, for scientific and research purposes (under the condition of maintaining anonymity for scientific and research purposes, unless the name disclosure is specifically and in writing agreed upon), as well as for more general promotional purposes of the Institute of Greek Language services. The INEL protects the personal and sensitive data of visitors/users and does not transfer them to any third party (natural or legal person) who is not related to it in any way, except in cases where it is required by law or requested by competent authorities.
E) Confidentiality and security of personal data processing: The INEL has taken the necessary technical security measures and organizational procedures for the processing of personal and sensitive data of visitors/users. The personal data collected are stored in servers with limited access, which are controlled by access codes, and the INEL uses special technologies and procedures, along with strict physical, electronic, and administrative security measures, to protect this information from loss, misuse, unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, or destruction. However, no data transfer via the Internet can be guaranteed to be 100% secure. This means that, although the INEL strives to protect the personal data of visitors/users, it cannot ensure or guarantee the security of data transferred by the visitor/user to the INEL, and it does so at their own risk.
ST) Rights of the data subject – Contact: The data subject may contact the person responsible for processing, as designated by the INEL, for information, access, and objection to the stored data that concerns them, according to Articles 11, 12, and 13 of Law 2472/1997, by using the following contact details: phone 2121004823, e-mail: info@in-el.gr, address: Vas. Sofias 4, Athens. In this case, the INEL will inform the data subject, within 15 days, about the data it holds. Furthermore, upon the data subject’s request, the INEL will promptly modify the stored data.
If the user is under 18 years old, it is presumed that they have obtained the necessary consent from the parent(s) or guardian(s), and thus the network servers can collect their personal data under the conditions set forth in this document. The INEL is not responsible for unauthorized use by minors.
If a visitor/user disagrees with the terms of personal data protection outlined in this section, they must refrain from using the website’s services.
