The Institute of Greek Language (INEL), in collaboration with Neohel, celebrated World Greek Language Day (February 9) by organizing workshops on the use of Art in teaching Greek as a second/foreign language. The workshops were conducted by educator Maria Plousiou.

The workshop “What the Painting Says” was designed for students learning Greek in various countries abroad.

The sessions featured paintings by Greek artist Nikos Hadjikyriakos-Ghikas.

The workshop had a dual objective: first, to enhance students’ oral production skills through the description of paintings and various interactive activities, encouraging the exchange of ideas, thoughts, and emotions inspired by the artwork. Second, to stimulate creative writing, leading to the development of stories, dialogues, and poems inspired by the artist’s work.

The material was implemented with students from Germany, Turkey, and Cyprus:

  • Tuesday, January 28 & Wednesday, January 29: Leibniz-Montessori-Gymnasium (Düsseldorf, Germany)
  • Monday, February 10 & Thursday, February 13: Zografeion Gymnasium & Lyceum (Istanbul, Turkey)
  • Friday, February 14: The Heritage Private School (Limassol, Cyprus)

The presentation of the workshop’s implementation took place in an online seminar on Saturday, February 22, with the participation of approximately 100 educators from 29 countries.
