The first major event of INEL is the International Conference on Teaching Greek as a Second/Foreign Language and Multilingualism, which took place in Athens from June 4 to June 6, 2025. Special emphasis was placed on multilingualism and its related parameters. The theoretical framework was presented by university scholars with research expertise on the subject. University lecturers from Greece and aboard (Europe, USA, Canada, Australia, Africa) working in public or private institutions as well as secondary education teachers in Greece and aboard, participated in panel discussions. Their presentations linked the teaching of various topics -such as vocabulary, translation, grammar, cultural elements, interculturality, assessment (⅘ skills), the text processing, and more- to new teaching approaches and innovative practices. The application of theory to practice, along with the exchange of ideas, were key objectives of the conference.

The congress was held at the Athenaeum InterContinental Athens Hotel whereas the scientific organization was led by the Modern Greek Studies Department of the University of Strasbourg and the Greek Language Institute.

The organizing committee consisted of Ms. Irini Tsamadou-Jacoberger (Professor of Modern Greek Studies and Vice-Rector for International Relations at the University of Strasbourg), Ms. Maria Zerva (Associate Professor and Director of the Department of Modern Greek Studies at the University of Strasbourg) and Ms. Evangelia Georgantzi (Philologist and President of the Institute of Greek Language).

The congress was held under the support of the Ministry of Education, Religious Affairs and Sports, the Ministry of Culture and the French Embassy in Greece.
