What is the INEL Book Club?

The INEL Book Club is an initiative of the Greek Language Institute, designed to respond to the needs of teachers, parents, and students.

Its work is structured around five core pillars:

A.             Book selection and presentation

B.             Training for educators and parents

C.             Educational programmes (with a strong focus on Greek as a second/foreign language, L2/FL)

D.             Development and dissemination of training and educational material with activities

E.             Engagement with the wider world of books and print culture

Α.             Book Selection and Presentation

The books we select and present are primarily for:

•               learners of Greek as a second/foreign language (L2/FL)

•               but also, for learners of Greek as a first language

There are plans to expand the initiative to include books for adults as well.

B.             Training for Educators and Parents

For teachers

We organise seminars where we present practical ideas and pedagogical approaches for using books effectively, with the aim of fostering children’s interest in reading and a love of books.

For parents

We offer informative talks that provide fresh ideas and practical tips, helping make reading an enjoyable and meaningful habit at home.

C.             Educational programmes (with a strong focus on Greek as a second/foreign language, L2/FL) which:

·      aim to cultivate a love of reading through contemporary pedagogical approaches such as multiliteracies

·      are implemented with student groups

•               in schools already collaborating with INEL

•               in schools interested in developing a collaboration with INEL

INEL aims to expand its partnerships with educational institutions where Greek is taught as a second/foreign language, both in Greece and internationally.

D.             The development and dissemination of training and educational material with activities

• promotes active learning, interaction, self-expression, empathy, and critical thinking

• is addressed to educators, parents, and learners

• constitutes INEL’s social contribution to the educational community in Greece and beyond

E.             Engagement with the wider world of books and print culture

The INEL Book Club fosters networking and dialogue with professionals from the world of books and print, including:

•               authors

•               educators

•               journalists

•               graphic designers

•               translators, among others

Through interviews, discussions, and collaborative exchanges, it encourages the sharing of ideas and nurtures a deeper love of reading.

In short…

The INEL Book Club is more than just a book club.

It is a community that reads, shares, and inspires, redefining what it means to read a good book or any other form of written expression.

Our vision

To see the Greek language and the love of books reach schools across Greece… and beyond.
